In September it was reported by Ross Dellenger that the NCAA was likely to approve sponsorship deals and logo representation on collegiate uniforms. As of Thursday, the deal remains pending approval, but LSU is reportedly already ahead of the curve.
Deputy athletic director and Chief Revenue officer Clay Harris revealed that LSU has already struck a deal with a potential sponsor when the NCAA approval is finalized.
“We have signed an agreement,” Harris told Front Office Sports. “We’ve mapped it out—it’ll be on all of our uniforms, every sport.”
There’s no indication of who the sponsor is, but nonetheless a deal has been reached. LSU would be the very first school in the NCAA to capitalize on the change once the ruling is made official.
The proposal for the rule change would shift schools from only being allowed to display apparel logos on their uniform to allowing up to two more commercial logos on their uniforms. The final vote on the rule change would take place in January.
