With trade rumors swirling around the 1-5 New Orleans Saints, it wasn’t only running back Alvin Kamara who addressed the possibility of being traded. So too did wide receiver Chris Olave. Perhaps no Saints player has been more tied to trade talks this cycle than the fourth-year wideout.
It’s no mystery why. He’s a talented pass-catcher with world class speed that would bring a lot to teams across the league looking to bolster their pass-catching corps. Olave’s contract is also an agreeable one for the would-be acquiring team in that his fifth-year option has already been picked up. That would give a new team a season-and-a-half long runway before making any contract decisions.
However, none of that means that he will be traded for certain. In fact, on Thursday, the wideout said something that seemed to indicate he’s not too worried about being on the move at all.
“It’s part of the business, man,” Olave said about the rumors. “It’s been like that all year, in the offseason, even right now. I ain’t really been on social media but I know it’s cooking right now that we 1-5. It’s always rumors; [the internet is] trying to always create some buzz, but I had conversations with the people in the building. So, I’m real confident.”
What exactly he’s confident about remains unclear. But it’s not hard to put two and two together. Olave has openly expressed an interest in remaining with the Saints in the past.

When asked how the conversation between him and the presumed front office kicked off, Olave revealed that he was approached amidst a slew of internet rumors.
“They came up to me,” he said. “It’s all over the internet, so they just talked to me and told me what was going on and I’ll keep that between me and them.”
It’s natural that a player like Olave would be mixed up in trade talk. He’s the team’s top wideout and passing game weapon, but the team is rebuilding itself. Olave could easily be interested in the idea of playing elsewhere. But instead, the receiver looks to be following in the footsteps of Kamara, defensive end Cameron Jordan and others in being committed to New Orleans until the organization makes the choice irrelevant.
Whether or not the Saints get the offer that forces the team to do so remains to be seen.
