Ashton Stamps has left the LSU football team according to Brian Kelly.
Stamps was a starter during his first two seasons with the program. He only played 18 defensive snaps through seven games this year, all against Louisiana Tech. Last week, Kelly indicated LSU would attempt to limit Stamps’s playing time under four games presumably to retain his redshirt.
Assuming a redshirt this season, Stamps will have two more season to play elsewhere.
The Rummel product started four games as a freshman in 2023 before starting all 13 games at cornerback in 2024. He ranked third in the SEC a season ago in passes defensed.
LSU has leaned heavily on transfer Mansoor Delane, sophomore PJ Woodland and true freshman DJ Pickett at cornerback this season.
