The New Orleans Saints have seen their fill of trade talk rumors this offseason. The newest progress report arrived on Saturday and for the first time centers around the Saints keeping one of their young stars rather than trading him away.
Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, New Orleans is expected to retain wide receiver Chris Olave heading into the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline.
Olave has been the subject of much trade conversation dating back to the offseason. But he has also made it clear that he and the Saints have been engaged in contract extension talks and that he feels “confident” that he and the team are on the same page.
General manager Mickey Loomis made it clear that the team wasn’t looking actively to move any of their players despite the team’s 1-6 start. However, that didn’t mean that the right price couldn’t at least get a conversation started.
This report seems to indicate a more active stance on the topic, one of an intent to keep Olave as part of not just their present, but potentially their future.
Olave is currently the team leader with 440 receiving yards. He is also coming off of back-to-back 98 receiving yard games including a two touchdown showing against the Chicago Bears last week.
Focus will now turn to fellow wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, linebacker Pete Werner and cornerback Alontae Taylor along with the various players that have also been mentioned in trade rumors as the deadline continues to approach.
