SEC Week 10 Power Rankings

Three coaches have been fired, only one team remains unbeaten, and Vanderbilt is a legitimate top ten team. It’s been an amazing season so far, and there’s still one more month left.

Here are this week’s power rankings. 

The Bottom 6 

16. Kentucky 

15. South Carolina 

14. Arkansas 

13. Auburn 

12. Florida 

11. Mississippi State

Tier 2 Teams

  1. LSU 

LSU went from being a consensus preseason top ten team in the country to now having to plead a case to be considered a top ten team in the SEC. It’s still an insanely talented roster, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get one more meaningful win in their final month of the season. 

  1. Texas 

The weekly hate watch from SEC fans once again didn’t work as the Longhorns managed to hang on for dear life in Starkville. We will now collectively direct our efforts towards cheering for Vanderbilt this Saturday in Austin. 

  1. Missouri

I feel bad dropping Missouri this low after losing in a dog fight on the road to a top ten team. Sadly, the Tigers are going to be without their starting quarterback the rest of the season, and you could also make the case that they deserve to be lower on the list given that a true freshman will have to start the rest of the way. 

  1. Oklahoma 

Oklahoma is out of mulligans and still has three straight games against top 20 opponents including two of those on the road. It’s not a great outlook for the boys in Norman.  

  1. Tennessee 

Good teams don’t play with their food. Sportsbooks expected Tennessee to do that when they put the line at 8.5 with the Vols being just a 3.5 point first half favorite. Tennessee came out on fire scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 35 in the first half. 

The Top 5 

  1. Georgia 

Georgia was on a bye week, but few teams are set up for more success going into the final month of the season. Preseason top 15 teams like Texas and Florida are still on the slate, but both teams are much less imposing than we thought in August. Georgia’s biggest opponent left on their schedule is Georgia Tech. Just as God intended. 

  1. Vanderbilt 

It was a gutsy win against Vanderbilt against Missouri. Under Clark Lea, this is a program that has learned how to win. Saturday they learned how to win even when they aren’t at their best. Diego Pavia had one of the more underwhelming performances of his time in Nashville. Still, Vanderbilt was able to come up with clutch defensive stops every time they needed it, and in the end Pavia was able to find the endzone with 1:52 left in the game. 

  1. Ole Miss 

That was an incredible win in Norman on Saturday. The Ole Miss offense ran circles around an Oklahoma defense that came in as the best in the SEC, and one of the best in the country. They put up 431 yards of offense on them, held the ball for over 35 minutes, and converted 42.9 percent of their third downs. Trinidad Chambliss had another incredible day offensively accounting for 368 yards of offense. 

  1. Alabama 

Survive and advance. Alabama got to 7-1, but in no way was it pretty. After beating four straight ranked opponents, they went to Columbia, South Carolina running on fumes. They were able to win, but it was about as ugly as it could be. South Carolina had an eight point lead with three minutes left and somehow lost by seven. Now Alabama finally gets to the bye week before their home stretch against LSU, Oklahoma, and Auburn. 

  1. Texas A&M

The resumé on the season may still not be as good as Alabama’s, but what the Aggies did on Saturday was something no one saw coming. Well, maybe no one besides Tommy Moffitt. Texas A&M’s third quarter blitzkrieg of LSU was not only enough to win the game, it was enough to empty the stadium, break the fanbase, and end the Brian Kelly era in Baton Rouge.
