In the wake of Brian Kelly’s firing, LSU made another staff change.
Offensive coordinator Joe Sloan was fired Monday as interim head coach Frank Wilson tries to steady the LSU ship for the next month. Tight ends coach and running game coordinator Alex Atkins will assume play calling duties. Atkins was the Florida State offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024 under head coach Mike Norvell who called the plays.
Sloan was Kelly’s first quarterbacks coach and assumed offensive coordinator duties in 2024 when Mike Denbrock left for Notre Dame.
Currently LSU ranks 12th in the SEC in scoring offense and 14th in total offense. The Tigers have not scored more than 25 points against an FBS team this season and have run the ball for 106.25 yards per game this season. That’s 124th of 136 FBS teams.
The Tigers were outscored 35-7 after halftime on Saturday night. A week earlier, the offense managed minus-10 yards of offense in the two fourth quarter drives that could have tied the game or given LSU the lead.
LSU enters the open date this week with a trip to Alabama up next on November 8.
