Executive Deputy Athletic Director Verge Ausberry is expected to serve as interim AD. A press conference is expected Friday with Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott Ballard.
At a Wednesday press conference, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared that Woodward would not be involved in the hiring of the next LSU football coach. Just over 24 hours later, it’s clear Woodward’s time is over. Three and a half years remain on his contract.
Under Woodward’s watch, LSU won national titles in football (2019), baseball (2023 and 2025) and women’s basketball (2023). LSU finished ninth in the Director’s Cup competition in 2022-23, the first top 10 finish for the school since 2009-09.
Over the last 25 years, Woodward has serves in various roles at LSU including Chancellor’s representative to the athletics department and Director of External Affairs. He then took that role at the University of Washington before being named Director of Athletics in 2008. He held that position until 2016 when he assumed the same role at Texas A&M.
Woodward is a 1985 graduate of LSU.
