SEC QB Rankings Week 11: Ty Simpson continues to stand out

Several star quarterbacks were off on bye weeks, while two in Auburn said goodbye to their head coach. Here are the SEC QB rankings for Week 11.

16. Whoever for Auburn
15. Matt Zollers, Missouri
14. LaNorris Sellers, Ole Miss
13. Cutter Boley, Kentucky
12. John Mateer, Oklahoma
11. DJ Lagway, Florida

The Top Ten

  1. Taylen Green, Arkansas

Arkansas lost the game, and Green was relatively held in check. Still, he didn’t have a single turnover, which is a big win for him and Bobby Petrino. It will be interesting to see how much these two let it fly over the final few games of the season.

  1. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

Nussmeier was off on a bye, but now he and interim head coach Frank Wilson head to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama and the SEC’s No. 2-ranked pass defense.

  1. Blake Shapen, Mississippi State

Shapen didn’t dominate against Arkansas, but he once again delivered when it mattered most. Shapen has a 182.97 passer rating in the fourth quarter. A third of his passing touchdowns this season have come in the fourth quarter of games, as well. He leads the SEC in both of those categories.

  1. Marcel Reed, Texas A&M

Reed was on a bye. This week, he brings his 23 touchdowns and SEC-second-best 8.8 yards per attempt on the road to Missouri.

  1. Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt

Statistically, it was the best game of his Vanderbilt career, but most of that production came in the fourth quarter with Texas already leading 34-10.

  1. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss

Chambliss was finally held in check this weekend against South Carolina. He finished with only 218 yards of offense and 159 through the air on 57.1% completed passes. It was the first time all year he was held to under 250 passing yards. Still, he secured the stat that mattered most, another win, while adding two touchdowns of his own.

  1. Joey Aguilar, Tennessee

He should be lower because of how costly those two interceptions were against Oklahoma. But it’s hard to deduct that much from a guy leading the conference in passing yards. It’s especially difficult when he’s coming off a 396 yard performance where he, yet again, threw for three touchdowns.

Aguilar has been really good for Tennessee, but in their two home losses he has four interceptions which is half of his season total.

  1. Arch Manning, Texas

The Arch we heard about all offseason is finally showing in Austin. Arch doesn’t rank in the top five of the SEC in passer rating, QBR, passing yards per game or completion percentage. But, he’s been one of the best QBs in the country over the last month of the season.

He’s coming off a 25-for-33 (75.8%), 328 yard and three touchdown performance against a top ten team this past Saturday. It’s his second straight three touchdown and 300 yard game. He’s also only thrown one interception in his last four games. He’s back. Or here. Finally.

  1. Gunner Stockton, Georgia

Stockton continues to be one of the most consistent players in the country. He leads the SEC in completion percentage at 70.3% and is fourth in FBS in QBR at 89. He didn’t light up the stat sheet against Florida, but finished 20-of-29 with 234 yards of offense. He did throw an interception, but it was on a tipped ball. It was only his second of the entire season.

  1. Ty Simpson, Alabama

Simpson was on a bye week. On the season he leads the SEC in passer rating (162.63), he’s third in completion percentage (67.8%) and ranks second in passing yards per game at 273.0. Most importantly, he’s 4-0 against top 25 teams and holds a 22-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio.
