LSU’s pursuit of Lane Kiffin is on.
LouisianaSports.net has learned that Layla Kiffin, the coach’s ex-wife and mother of his children, will be in Baton Rouge on Monday to tour the city. The Advocate reported that LSU sent the plane to Oxford to pick up members of the Kiffin family. On Sunday, she reportedly visited Gainesville as Florida pursues the coach as well.
The two divorced in 2016 and have since reconciled. Layla moved to Mississippi with the couple’s son, Knox, who has two years of high school remaining. The Kiffins’ oldest child, Landry, is a student at Ole Miss and is dating LSU linebacker Whit Weeks. Presley, the middle child, is on the women’s volleyball team at USC.
Kiffin has Ole Miss ranked No. 5 in the country and 10-1 entering the second bye week. A win against Mississippi State in two weeks would give Ole Miss its first ever 11-win regular season and sew up a College Football Playoff berth.
Florida and LSU have made Kiffin a priority, and due diligence is being done by all parties. Timing becomes the most difficult aspect as teams with coaching vacancies know the importance of roster building for 2026 in December and early January. Meanwhile, Ole Miss is almost assuredly in the CFP.
The coming weeks could be transformative across the SEC as Kiffin makes his ultimate decision and Florida, LSU, Auburn and Arkansas make their next hires.
