In what was arguably the most anticipated Egg Bowl ever, Ole Miss was able to block out the noise and beat Mississippi State, 38-19.

The Story

Ole Miss and Mississippi State traded blows to start the game as each scored on their opening drive. Ole Miss came out on fire to start the game, and it looked like the Mississippi State defense were the ones who were distracted all week leading up to the game. After surrendering over 190 yards in the opening quarter, the Bulldog defense settled down and made it 14-10 right before the half.

Ole Miss kept swinging though and after being held to just 10 yards the first 13 minutes of the second quarter, went 75 yards in nine plays to go up 21-10 at the break.

Mississippi State fought hard for most of the game as backup QB Kamario Taylor showed signs of brilliance all afternoon. He capitalized on some open space early in the fourth quarter and scrambled 35 yards for a touchdown, breaking several ankles on his way to cutting the lead to 31-19.

Ole Miss suffocated the Bulldogs defensively and continued to do what they’ve done all season to defenses – score from far and make big plays, especially on third down. Trinidad Chambliss capped off one of the best stories of the college football season. The former Division II quarterback threw for four touchdowns and 359 yards.

3 – Ole Miss has won three straight games in Starkville for the first time in 55 years.
