NEW ORLEANS, La. — As early signing day rolls along in college football, the New Orleans Saints are still working ahead of their next matchup. Before practices begin on Wednesday, the team has announced a pair of active roster additions.
The Saints signed wide receiver Dante Pettis and guard William Sherman to their 53-man roster. Both players were on the team’s practice squad.
Pettis, who has also been the team’s primary return man since New Orleans traded wideout Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks, had his final eligible elevation used in last week’s contest with the Miami Dolphins. With no more standard elevations available, the Saints have moved him to the active roster so that he can continue to contribute.
The two spots on the roster were created on Tuesday afternoon.
New Orleans waived wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. and tackle Barry Wesley. Both of which could find their way back to the practice squad soon.
