LSU’s push for a quarterback came up short.
Landon Duckworth, a four-star signal caller from Jackson, AL, stuck with his commitment to South Carolina on Thursday. Multiple recruiting insiders suggested a flip was very possible.

LSU had been searching for a quarterback in the 2026 class under Brian Kelly and had come up empty. That search continues.
Duckworth stands 6-foot-3 and is ranked the No. 10 quarterback in the country by Rivals. He’s the No. 151 prospect in America.
A two-time state champion in basketball and part of a state championship 4×100 relay team, Duckworth is an elite athlete. His Jackson High School football team won state in 2024 as he threw for 3,439 yards and 39 touchdowns while running for 648 yards and 12 touchdowns.
He had considered both LSU and Ole Miss before committing to South Carolina in July. South Carolina fired offensive coordinator Mike Shula midseason. He was Duckworth’s primary recruiter.
LSU had not signed a high school quarterback since Colin Hurley in the 2024 class. Garrett Nussmeier is out of eligibility, and Hurley is away from the team currently for personal reasons. That leaves Michael Van Buren as the only scholarship quarterback moving forward.
The transfer portal opens the first week of January, and LSU will be active in pursuing quarterbacks.
