Hours after wrapping up an elite defensive line signing class, LSU has a coach for the position.
Elijah Robinson will leave his post at Syracuse to be Lane Kiffin’s defensive line coach at LSU, according to Football Scoop. Robinson spent the last two seasons as defensive coordinator at Syracuse, but he was demoted this week to co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach by Orange head coach Fran Brown.
Prior to his two seasons at Syracuse, Robinson was defensive line coach at Texas A&M for six years under Jimbo Fisher.
Under his leadership up front, the A&M defense finished in the top-20 in rushing defense three times including a pair of top five finishes. Four defensive tackles were taken in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft.
He’s also known as a dynamic recruiter. Robinson was integral in landing Texas A&M’s No. 1 overall signing class in 2022, and he secured commitments from Louisiana-born Tigers Gabriel Reliford and Dominick McKinley at Texas A&M.
When Fisher was fired in 2023, Robinson was promoted to interim head coach due in no small part to his reputation and relationship with the Aggie players.
Robinson played his college football at Penn State and started his coaching career in Happy Valley.
He joins a defensive staff headed by coordinator Blake Baker who will remain at LSU after being pursued by Tulane and Memphis in the last week. Kyle Williams is finishing his first season as defensive line coach. Robinson’s addition means it’s likely that Williams will not be retained.
