The final edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released earlier on Sunday, and after weeks of debate, disagreements, and downright disdain between fanbases and suggested biases, the finale was shocking.
In a bizarre year for the CFP field, two Group of Six schools made the 12 team playoff. The five highest ranked conference champions automatically make the field. That means both James Madison and Tulane snuck in at the No. 12 and No. 11 seeds respectively.
The debate among Alabama, Notre Dame, Miami, and BYU finally saw some clarity. Coming into Saturday, Alabama was ranked No. 9 with Notre Dame, BYU, and Miami following. Despite Alabama’s embarrassing loss in the SEC Championship game they didn’t drop a single spot. The real shock was that after Duke upset Virginia in the ACC Championship and the Cavaliers lost their automatic bid, Miami jumped two spots to No. 10 despite not playing a game.
Notre Dame was the first team out while BYU was the second team out.
