As LSU enters game week for their matchup with Houston in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl, there is more clarity on which players will be available for the Tigers.
Defensively, Harold Perkins Jr. has likely played his last game as a Tiger. The redshirt junior linebacker is not expected to play as he has accepted an invitation to participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Jardin Gilbert is expected to replace him at the STAR position. Gilbert played in 13 games with nine starts a season ago but played in just four games this season to maintain his extra year of eligibility. Players can participate in a bowl game without it counting against their eligibility.
Interim head coach Frank Wilson had previously announced All-American cornerback Mansoor Delane, defensive end Jack Pyburn and linebacker Whit Weeks would not play against Houston. West Weeks is also expected to sit out Saturday. Davhon Keys and Tylen Singleton are expected to start. LouisianaSports.net reported All-SEC safety AJ Haulcy would also miss the game with Dashawn Spears replacing him.
There will be a shuffle on the offensive line also. While center Braelin Moore is back from a foot injury and is expected to play, Josh Thompson will miss the game. The Northwestern transfer played 787 snaps this season, the most of any Tiger. The starting offensive line from left to right is expected to be Tyree Adams, Coen Echols, Moore, Paul Mubenga and Weston Davis. Despite his intention to enter the transfer portal, Carius Curne will play against Houston and has not ruled out the possibility of a return to LSU.
