This is a quick turnaround for LSU.
The Tigers took out Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night and welcome Prairie View A&M on Monday. Conference play often calls for a two-day turnaround, so this is good prep for the Tigers as the SEC slate approaches.
Of course, this isn’t SEC competition.
Prairie View A&M comes in with a 5-6 record, but four of the wins are against lower level competition. The Panthers have beaten Paul Quinn College, Champions Christian College, University of Dallas, and College of Biblical Studies. Those won’t count toward their resume.
Their NET is 302, so this will very much be a Quad 4 game.
HOMECOMING
This will be a cool stage for Tai’Reon Joseph as he returns to Baton Rouge. Joseph was a star at Scotlandville alongside Javonte Smart and Reece Beekman.
He started his career at Southern and transferred to UTSA. Now he’s at Prairie View scoring 21 points per game to lead the way.
He’s a volume shooter and will be getting shots up early and often back in his hometown.
BENCH BUCKETS
LSU needs some offensive punch from the guys coming off the bench. On Friday, the non-starters only scored nine points.
Robert Miller can score around the rim. PJ Carter is a great shooter. And maybe Ron Zipper can hit a couple of shots now and then in limited minutes. The starters are obviously going to shoulder the biggest workload, but the bench guys need to provide something.
There will be plenty of minutes to go around on Monday. Prairie View lost by 43 to Wichita State and 27 to Oklahoma State. Missouri beat them by 17.
DEFEND AND DEFLECT
LSU is not getting many turnovers. They only forced nine from Southeastern. To this point, LSU ranks No. 279 in the country in opponent turnovers per game.
The Tigers need to be a little more active and disruptive on the defensive end of the floor.
The Shockers forced this Panther team into 17 turnovers. It will be disappointing if the Tigers can’t force 15 turnovers on Monday night.
