BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU women’s basketball team fell to Kentucky, 80-78, on Thursday night inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 4 to face Vanderbilt. The game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. CT inside the Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee.
With the victory, LSU falls to 14-1 overall, while Kentucky improves to 14-1 on the season.
In the first half, LSU came out strong with a Kate Koval layup and two three-pointers by Mikaylah Williams. Kentucky made a comeback scoring 13 consecutive points to take its first lead with 1:48 remaining in the first quarter. Following a back-and-forth stretch, the teams headed into the break with a tie, 41-41. The Tigers shot 48.4 percent on 15-of-31 shots and drained three treys. The Wildcats shot 16-of-36 (44.4%) and knocked down just three three-pointers.
In the second half, Kentucky clutched the win after Tonie Morgan drained a three at game buzzer. The Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor on 15-of-30 shooting, while the Wildcats were 14-of-33 (42.4%). Kentucky outrebounded LSU 23-12 and knocked down five treys to LSU’s two.
Mikaylah Williams led the Tigers with 26 points on 9-of-17 shots and three treys. Other Tigers that scored in double figures were Flau’Jae Johnson (15), Amiya Joyner (14) and Jada Richard (14).
The Wildcats were led by Tonie Morgan with 24 points on 7-of-10 shots and three treys.
