The transfer portal can be unpredictable, but here are three high-profile prospects who could be the next dominoes to fall, and where they might land.
WR Cam Coleman
The former Auburn receiver is a consensus top five player in the portal cycle. The talent isn’t in question, but where he ends up still is. Coleman has taken visits to all three of the biggest schools in Texas: Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. He is set to visit Alabama this weekend, but my assumption would be that he ends up in the Lonestar state at one of those three.
He was set to go to Texas A&M out of high school, but changed his mind and chose in-state Auburn instead. The idea that the Aggies would have the initial lead in the race for his signature makes a ton of sense. The other two teams, however, are way more intriguing. With A&M you can make the pitch that he can flourish in the offense alongside Mario Craver like KC Concepcion did.
The counterpoint is that the offensive coordinator that led the A&M offense this year is off to Kansas State.

The pitch for Texas and Texas Tech is straightforward. At Texas, you can play in one of the nation’s top offenses under a head coach who produced a Heisman-winning wide receiver in DeVonta Smith and back-to-back first-round NFL picks at the position. He would put up ridiculous numbers in a Steve Sarkisian offense. The other pitch from Texas Tech is even simpler – pay him whatever he wants and make him say no.
Texas Tech has already spent a ton of money on a QB, and there is probably no better example of money not being real in the sport of college football than at Texas Tech with their oil money.
Prediction: Texas
QB Sam Leavitt
Leavitt seems like a really good prospect, and I think he would be phenomenal in Lane Kiffin’s offense. As reckless as Kiffin can seem on Twitter, he’s pretty calculated in mostly every other decision he makes. I say that to say, I don’t think he would’ve been actively recruiting Demond Williams while Leavitt was on his visit if he was fully convinced that he was his guy.
I don’t know what happens with Williams because it is yet another example of the uncharted territory we are in during the transfer portal. I do think that one of the themes of any Lane Kiffin portal class, and especially this one, is that he believes he can win with a lot of different players regardless of how highly touted they are. Trinidad Chambliss is a perfect example.

Leavitt remains immensely talented and will keep drawing widespread interest. He’s currently visiting Tennessee, but the team flying under the radar is where I’ll make my prediction.
Carson Beck is gone. Miami has made it very clear that they love to go on a QB shopping spree in the portal after signing Beck to a one year $4 million deal and former No. 1 NFL Draft Pick Cam Ward to a one year $1.5 million deal. Their season is drawing to a close pretty soon, and I think they’ll get Leavitt on campus when they return from the Fiesta Bowl and ultimately sign him.
Prediction – Miami
EDGE Damon Wilson II
There is less info on Wilson than almost any other prospect in the portal right now in regards to where he could land. He’s a top ten player in the portal for the second consecutive season and the No. 2 ranked defensive player again.
Wilson is extremely talented. He’s a former five star out of high school that signed with Georgia before transferring to Missouri. He finished the season third in the SEC in sacks with nine and added 9.5 tackles for loss. Without getting dahead of my skis and sounding like Charlie from Always Sunny in Philadelphia connecting a bunch of imaginary dots that lead to nowhere – hear me out.
Highest pressure rate, FBS EDGE defenders:
David Bailey, Texas Tech: 28.4%
Damon Wilson II, Missouri: 27.2%
Zion Young, Missouri: 26.9%
Clev Lubin, Louisville: 24.0%
AJ Green, Louisville: 23.2%
Malick Sylla, Miss. State: 23.1%
Keyron Crawford, Auburn: 23.0%

Wilson is one of the top players in the country. There are two teams that need pass rush help more than almost anybody and are willing to spend: Ohio State and LSU. Former Penn State EDGE Chaz Coleman has been linked to Ohio State since the portal opened. Wendell Gregory is another Top 25 player and top five EDGE player from Oklahoma State, but he is predicted to land at Texas Tech.
We already know that LSU bringing in Sterling Lucas is a big hire that almost helped LSU land South Carolina sophomore phenom Dylan Stewart. That tells me two things: it’s definitely a position of need and if they’re willing to spend for a guy like Stewart who was the highest paid defensive end last in the FBS last season, they are willing to spend to get someone else.
LSU loses a ton of talent from last year’s team at this position. I can’t imagine the portal king striking on Coleman and Wilson. I think one of them ends up in Baton Rouge, and as of today Wilson may be more feasible.
Prediction – LSU
