JaKolby Jones on X

In a different era, the junior college ranks were the original transfer portal.
If you needed a quick plug and play piece, you could lean on JUCO. Now the entire sport operates that way. LSU will add somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 players this transfer cycle. Ja’Kolby Jones happens to be a JUCO product.

He’ll add depth to an LSU offensive line that was desperate for pieces when the portal opened on January 2.
WHAT WE KNOW
Jones played a pair of seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, MS. He found his way there from Many where he was originally committed to Georgia Tech. He opted for junior college instead.
Following his two seasons at CLCC, Jones committed to Louisiana Lafayette and held and offer from Illinois among other schools.
He’s 6-foot-5 and about 300 lbs. and has played guard and tackle, though mostly right guard. That provides some versatility.
THE FIT
LSU added some bigger names to the fold as the portal window closed. Devin Harper from Ole Miss and Sean Thompkins from Baylor feel like plug and play players. Braelin Moore returns, as does Weston Davis. That may be four of the five starters. We’ll see about Jordan Seaton as his recruitment winds down.
Jones feels like a depth add with multiple years of eligibility left. Seasons never come and go with five offensive linemen remaining healthy. Depth is essential. Jones will provide some of that.
HUNT’S PROJECTION
I like the fact that Bret Bielema offered Jones. That guy knows offensive line play. I would toss him in a group right now with the Bordelon brothers Ja’Quan Sprinkle and Ja’Mard Jones as guys with positional versatility that I don’t project as starters but will add some depth.
The crop of linemen that just left LSU in this cycle didn’t progress the way many envisioned. The hope is that this staff will develop the bench a little bit better.
