LSU adds Fred McAfee as assistant RB coach under Kevin Smith

The LSU transfer portal class may be set, but the coaching staff is still adding new members. Former Ole Miss running back Fred McAfee is joining Lane Kiffin’s staff as assistant running backs coach to Kevin Smith, LouisianaSports.net has learned.

McAfee was a walk-on who spent three seasons with the Rebels from 2021-23. He entered the transfer portal after spring in 2024.

Kevin Smith followed Kiffin from Ole Miss to LSU last month to coach LSU’s running backs and will also serve as Assistant Head Coach.

McAfee is the son of former New Orleans Saints running back Fred McAfee who currently serves as the team’s Vice President of Player Engagement.
