Mardi Gras is over which means it’s time for Lent. For those unfamiliar with the Lenten season, it’s basically a do-over version of New Year’s resolutions from after Mardi Gras and until Easter. It’s not just for Catholics either; it can be for everyone. Looking around the SEC, there are several teams that could stand to give up a few things to better themselves. Here’s what some SEC teams should give up this Lenten season, part one.
Arkansas – Expectations
That sounds drastic and rude, but it’s for the best. The Arkansas athletic department is clearly cursed. There’s enough examples from their baseball program alone that would prove this to be true. The good news is that that same baseball program will most likely be in contention for another trip to Omaha this season. Even better, the basketball team looks like it could be good enough to make a run this March behind Darius Acuff. Both of those things could happen this season and end a 30 year drought for championships. For their own health though, Arkansas and their fans should just approach most things with low expectations so they’re not disappointed.

Auburn – Calling themselves an Everything School
It wasn’t super believable when they first tried to label themselves as an “everything school” a couple of years ago. Credit to Auburn, though, because I wished I believed in literally anything as much as Auburn believes in their own greatness. They haven’t had a winning football season in five years. Baseball rarely lives up to expectations. Basketball has fallen off a cliff ever since they turned the program to the next in line in nepotism, Steven Pearl. They used to be elite in equestrian, but even that has been taken over by South Carolina and Georgia. Maybe average at best at everything school can be the new slogan.
Breaking: Bruce Pearl is expected to retire as the head coach of Auburn, sources tell @jeffborzello and @PeteThamel.

Georgia – Arguing about Mike Bobo
Mike Bobo is a good offensive coordinator. He was not only a Broyles Award finalist this season for the best coordinator in America, he was the only offensive coordinator to be named a finalist. He may not be as good as Todd Monken, but last time I checked George Pickens, James Cook, and Brock Bowers aren’t walking through that door anytime soon.

Kentucky – Spending NIL money on basketball
Last night Georgia beat Kentucky at Rupp Arena for the first time in 14 years. That loss dropped them to 8-5 in SEC play and 17-9 overall this season. That’s not horrible by most standards, but that’s pretty disappointing by Kentucky standards. It’s even worse when you consider that they spent $22 million on this year’s roster. That’s basically $2.8 million per win in conference play.
RUMOR: Kentucky’s roster for next season is worth just over $20 Million. 🤯💰

LSU – Matt McMahon
This doesn’t need an explanation.
It’s a true modern mystery how Beth Torina and Matt McMahon are still employed at #LSU. https://t.co/oknNrW6c7I

Ole Miss – Talking about Lane Kiffin
Just kidding, they will never be able to do that. Could you imagine?
Texas – Talking
Please. For the love of God. It’s almost never about reality.
