The New Orleans Saints have four voiding contracts coming up in the second week of March before the NFL free agency period opens. Among those deals is former LSU tight end Foster Moreau.
While he didn’t have a productive 2025 statistically with the role he inherited coming back from a serious lower leg injury, there still could be ample value keeping him around in 2026.
The 28-year-old is wrapping up his three-year, $12.23 million deal with New Orleans after joining the Saints in 2023.
The New Orleans native saw his best year with the Saints in 2024 when he reeled in 32 receptions for 413 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. Last year, he brought in just seven receptions for 59 yards and no touchdowns.
However, he was only deployed for 35% of snaps throughout the year despite returning to the lineup more quickly than anticipating following a late-season knee injury in 2024 which required surgery in the offseason.
His value goes beyond the role he was assigned in head coach Kellen Moore’s new offense.
Moreau is well-known as a vocal leader. Anyone that’s attended a Saints practice, training camp or in-season, can attest to that fact. That kind of energy doesn’t lie dormant for another player to tap into when a vocal guy departs.
The Saints, whether by virtue of necessity or effort, have become a much younger team that stands to get even younger going into the 2026 season. Having a player around like Moreau would be massively valuable as the club continues to navigate its rebuild process.
Whether or not the seven-year tight end wants to pursue a larger role elsewhere will be a likely determining factor. But if he wants to continue to contribute to his hometown team, the Saints should be open to oblige.
