The NFL’s negotiating window is officially open.
The New Orleans Saints are expected to be active in the guard market this offseason with free agency opening this week. The Saints may not end up being day one players at the position, but are in need of a starter at left guard.
The market just got a little thinner, however, with one of the top options at the position agreeing to an extension with their team.
Guard Ed Ingram, a former LSU Tiger, agreed to terms on an extension with the Houston Texans, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Along with Buffalo Bills interior offensive lineman David Edwards, Ingram was consistently considered one of the top options at guard in free agency. He’ll now remain in Houston on a new three-year deal.
New Orleans still has options, however. Along with Edwards, Cleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller, New York Jets lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker and Los Angeles Chargers guard Zion Johnson (a former draft pick of now-Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s) are all expected to be among a deep pool of options.
