Per NOLA.com’s Matt Paras, the suspension is due to Bishop violating the NFL’s Substance of Abuse policy.
Bishop joined the Saints late in the 2025 season, reuniting with cornerbacks coach Grady Brown, who coached the third-year corner during his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The West Virginia corner had an impressive first year in 2024 notching four interceptions playing predominantly from the slot.
With the departure of slot corner Alontae Taylor from New Orleans, Bishop was set to be in line to compete for at least a depth role at that spot. Effectively, he’ll still get that chance if he remains on the roster in training camp, but won’t be able to join the roster until Week 4.
His ability to take on that opportunity may depend on the context of the suspension, however.
Bishop received a Reserve/Future contract with the Saints after spending multiple weeks on the team’s practice squad in 2025. He is set to join corners Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, Jayden Price, Rejzohn Wright, Dallys Beanum and Isaac Yiadom going into offseason programs in a few months.
The third-year corner will be eligible to participate in those programs as his suspension will not begin until the roster cutdown to 53 players following the preseason.
New Orleans will continue to be in the market at cornerback, especially in the slot, throughout the offseason.
