LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt was a welcomed addition to the team’s first spring practice Tuesday. The Arizona State transfer was observed working during individual drills during the media viewing portion of practice.
“Sam was able to throw some,” Lane Kiffin said after practice. “He’s moving around a little bit but he can’t do any team stuff. That was really his first time doing much throwing and moving his lower body. We expect by the end of spring he’ll be able to do a lot more.”
Leavitt suffered a Lisfranc injury in September that would eventually require surgery, limiting to him just seven games for the Sun Devils.
The redshirt junior was one of three quarterbacks LSU added via the transfer portal. Husan Longstreet joined the Tigers after one season at USC and Landen Clark is a redshirt sophomore who transferred from Elon.
“They’ve done a really good job,” Kiffin said of the three quarterbacks. “It’s a lot on that position in our system because they drive everything.”
“They’re really like the point guard. If they don’t know what they’re doing really well and they don’t drive it, the system doesn’t work as well as it has for a long time.”
LSU returns to the practice field Thursday morning.
