Spring practice No. 2 in the books at LSU.
It was another sunsplashed spring day in Baton Rouge, and the Tigers wore helmets and shorts for the workout.
The “first units” to work against each other in 11-on-11 looked like this:
Offense
Offensive Line (L-to-R): Jordan Seaton, Devin Harper, Braelin Moore, Aliou Bah, Weston Davis
Quarterback: Landen Clark
Running Back: Caden Durham
Tight End: Trey’Dez Green
Wide Receiver: Jayce Brown, Winnie Watkins, Jackson Harris
Note: There was a No. 6 at wide receiver. The only 6s on the roster are quarterback Husan Longstreet and linebacker TJ Dottery. We believe the wide recevier wearing 6 was Winnie Watkins
Defense
Defensive Line: Jordan Ross, Deuce Geralds, Richard Anderson, Princewill Umanmielen
Linebackers: TJ Dottery and Davhon Keys
Cornerbacks: DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland
Safeties: Ty Benefield and Tamarcus Cooley
It’s interesting to note that the freshman defensive tackles were working with what appears to the first unit while Dominick McKinley and Malik Blocton, the Auburn transfer, worked with the second group. Gabriel Reliford and Dylan Carpenter rounded out a veteran second defensive line.
BAKER’S BOUNCING AROUND
After spending the individual drills with STAR prospects like Keys, Keylan Moses, Zach Weeks and other traditional linebackers on Tuesday, Baker spent the period with rangier STAR candidates in CJ Jimcoily, Dashawn Spears and Aiden Hall.
LSU is obviously going to use different skillsets in that spot, and Baker is hands on with that. In heavier sets, the shorter, stockier linebackers will play. The longer athletes will play when the field spreads.
LANGNIAPPE
- Phillip Wright can really run. He looked like he had another gear in the deep ball period.
- Freshman defensive tackle Richard Anderson may have a little baby weight in his midsection, but he’s physcially very impressive.
- Stephiylan Green was once against not seen during individual periods.
- Traylan James, the Southern DB transfer, was working with the safeties. He played a little bit of corner and safety at Southern.
- Kevin Peoples coached the EDGE position last season, but he is now working with the interior defensive line, which is reflected in his bio.
