After a quick start to free agency, the New Orleans Saints have begun to zero in on the NFL Draft. Traveling to Pro Days, hosting pre-draft visits and more, it may seem that all of the team’s attention has turned to April’s selection process. However, this week was an indication that might not be entirely the case.
The Saints recently brought back safety and special teams contributor Terrell Burgess and signed quarterback Zach Wilson to add to the team’s signal caller room.
So while New Orleans gets its draft prep in order, the club continues to explore the market. With that in mind, there are three key positions the Saints could look to address ahead of the draft: defensive end, defensive tackle and wide receiver.
Whether looking at previous in-house options or on the open market, here are three players the Saints should consider over the coming weeks.
Defensive End Cameron Jordan
The biggest reunion everyone is waiting to hear more about, Jordan could well find his way back to New Orleans, though it does sound like he’s received interest elsewhere. New Orleans lost a lot of leadership this offseason, and retaining Jordan would be a win for the Saints from both rotational and mentorship perspectives.
Defensive Tackle D.J. Reader
New Orleans could use more reinforcements on the interior of their defensive line. After bringing back defensive tackle John Ridgeway III, the need isn’t as massive from a roster perspective, but continuing to add talented nose tackles wouldn’t be a bad call by the Saints’ brass.
Wide Receiver Jauan Jennings
Here’s where New Orleans could still make a splash. Jennings would be a perfect complement to the wide receiver room that stars Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele. There are ample opportunities in the NFL Draft to add to the position, but Jennings could be a worthwhile investment ahead of time.
