It’s Easter weekend, and there are several teams that desperately need to resurrect their postseason hopes and get back on track. Six weekend series started Thursday with the remaining two opening Friday. Here’s our weekend preview for this week in SEC baseball.
Off and Running
Alabama put an eight spot up in the second inning against Oklahoma and took a 10-1 lead out of the gates. Georgia went to Starkville for a massive top five matchup at the cathedral of college baseball and took a 10-2 lead early against Mississippi State. Just went it looked like Florida was back after sweeping Arkansas they had more series opening woes once again falling to Ole Miss.
Then there was the biggest surprise in the country.
The worst team in the conference took it to the best team. South Carolina beat Texas in the most shocking final score of the entire season.
Last weekend we watched seven of the eight series around the league end in a sweep. This week probably won’t end the same, but my goodness it’s off to another whacky start.

Weekend Wellness Check
We have an LSU writer, and Hunt Palmer does a tremendous job covering the home team. I will stay in my lane and not dive into this series since he will take care of that. I will simply say that if there was a nickname for this specific series between LSU and Tennessee it would be the Weekend Wellness Check Series because whichever fanbase loses is going to be in full on meltdown mode this Sunday.
The Who needs it More Series
Like a 20 year-old college kid at NYU debating changing majors or becoming a DJ, the Arkansas Razorbacks have lost themselves. I’m not sure what the solution is. In the case of the former it’s usually asking if your parents will finance a trip to go backpacking across Europe. For Arkansas, it’s probably way less expensive and not as dramatic. They just need to win.
The Razorbacks were swept at home last weekend for the first time since 2016. They followed that up by losing their midweek game against Missouri State. Auburn found a parallel route to the Hogs. They came into Thursday night having lost five straight conference games and getting trounced in the midweek to Georgia Tech.
Both of these teams were in the top five just two weeks ago and felt destined for Omaha. Like a 40 year-old divorced dad getting Turkish hair transplants, this would be a massive confidence boost for whoever wins.

Best Matchup of the Weekend
The best matchup on the weekend is in Starkville between two Bulldogs. It’s not particularly close either. Georgia brings their bomb squad, and nation leading home run total to Dudy Noble Field.
Georgia has to feel like there’s a slight chip on their shoulder since, despite their ranking, they aren’t really mentioned in the same breath as Mississippi State or Texas when it comes to discussing the nation’s elite teams.
They could change that this weekend, but that’s a tall task considering how well rounded this Mississippi State team is. They finished Thursday with a win in the series opener. The next two games will be must see TV for any fan of college baseball.
Which brings me to my next point.
What moron at ESPN was in charge of the programming this weekend? Two top five teams facing off on Thursday night with the only other thing on the main network being a couple of NIT games, and you slot 1-8 South Carolina versus No. 2 Texas on SEC Network instead? Brutal. Just show corgi racing or banana ball instead while you’re at it.

Who’s on upset alert?
The answer to this question should be Florida, but it feels like cheating since Ole Miss won the first game of the series already. In the spirit of not taking the easy way out, I’ll give you another one.
How about Kentucky? They host Missouri who is currently tied for last in the conference with a 1-8 record. They’re not a good team, clearly. Neither is Kentucky . They would be–if it was 1988, but in 2026 the small version of baseball they have latched their identity to is not a winning strategy.
Now, they are sure to hit 30 home runs on the weekend. Enjoy!
