SEC Basketball Transfer Portal Day Six: SEC still lagging behind

The first wave of official visits are still happening around the country, and the pace of decisions has finally followed suit. Here’s a look at the latest on everything happening in the basketball transfer portal following day six.

It was another busy day in the portal as the first wave of weekend commitments started to roll in. Saturday saw 23 players on the men’s side commit to a new school, including the No. 1 overall prospect in the portal. After a very slow start to the cycle there have been over 50 commitments in the last 48 hours. The numbers around the SEC are still extremely lopsided. As of Sunday morning, there are only six commitments from the transfer portal in the whole conference.

While Will Wade has still yet to land his first commitment from this year’s portal cycle, Kim Mulkey got one off the board on Saturday, and may get some more good news before the weekend is over. LSU is currently hosting Iowa State’s Jada Williams on an official visit. She was a first team All-Big 12 selection this year and averaged over 15 ppg along with 7.7 assists per game.

Last year’s biggest purchase for LSU went on sale again after an incredibly disappointing year together. Dedan Thomas was one of the top ten players in last year’s cycle and got around $2 million to come to LSU. On Saturday, he announced his new destination to Houston.

On a lighter note, UNC’s social media team made a recruiting graphic about their new head coach that included dubious claims about player development.
