The SEC baseball scene took a backseat to the NFL Draft this weekend, but that didn’t stop the league from providing some incredible moments and wild series wins. Looking at you Starkville, Mississippi. Here’s our weekly SEC Baseball Power Rankings.
1. Georgia
Georgia has done nothing to lose the top spot in this week’s power rankings. They went on the road and took two of three from a good Ole Miss team that has been hell for teams at home. What impressed me most was that their game three pitching finally got going. They have been awful in series finale outings on the mound for the entire conference season. On Sunday they went out and allowed one run the entire game, and went back to Athens with their sixth conference series win in seven tries.

2. Texas A&M
Texas A&M is absolutely on fire, and after their road series win at Florida they’re now 5-2 in conference series this year and 7-1 in their last eight games against conference opponents. They’ve beaten Florida, Texas, and LSU in that span with two sweeps under their belt. They hit the ball so hard, and the top half of their lineup is arguably the most dangerous 1-4 of any in the country.
3. Mississippi State
Speaking of great lineups and teams being on fire – Mississippi State. State put on a show this weekend in Starkville against LSU. Three straight wins, and all three were in come-from-behind fashion. The Bulldogs have eight players with more than 100 at bats on the season and six of those eight are hitting over .300. They have 15 players who have started ten games or more this season, and 11 of those are hitting over .300. They are the most balanced lineup in the conference top to bottom and are absolutely awesome to watch.
4. Texas
Texas feels like a tortoise and hare situation. They have some bats in their lineup that are really impressive, and as a team they’re fifth in the league in batting average at .298. Their presence on the mound is what makes them so dominant though. They continue to be phenomenal as a staff and are second in the SEC in ERA at 3.45. They’ve also won six of their seven series this season. Not too bad.

5. Auburn
Auburn is a bit of jekyll and hyde when it comes to their projections and rankings. They’re really good first and foremost. That’s especially the case on the mound, as the Tigers lead the SEC with a 3.29 ERA. They’ve led the league in ERA for most of the year. Their hitting has come on as of late as well, and they’re hitting over .300 as a team. As it stands today they would be a top eight host in the postseason. Will that stand with who they close the season with is the real question. The Tigers close the season with Texas A&M, Georgia, and Mississippi State. It’s by far the toughest three game stretch of any team in the league. Besides Missouri, of course, who makes everyone they play look like those three teams.
6. Ole Miss
Ole Miss took one on the chin against Georgia, but they’re still playing really good baseball. The narrative changes on them a little if they don’t lose a 14 inning heartbreaker to Georgia in game two of their double header on Saturday. Still, they have ten Quad-1 wins which is the fourth most in the country, ironically enough tied with Georgia.

7. Arkansas
It was disappointing that Arkansas didn’t get the sweep against Missouri in my opinion. Still, a series win is a series win, and the Hogs are above .500 in league play with three series to go.
8. Florida
It looked like we were in for some more Florida fireworks this weekend after Aidan King dominated Texas A&M in game one of the three game series. That wasn’t the case, but the Gators are still No. 13 in RPI which ranks sixth in the SEC, and their 13 Quad-1 wins are tied for most in the nation.
9. Tennessee
Don’t look now, but Tennessee is starting to figure some things out at the plate. Since last Sunday’s win against Ole Miss the Vols have hit 17 home runs in five games including seven this weekend against Alabama. They’ve hit 29 extra base hits in that same time frame.
10. Alabama
Alabama is just 2-7 in their last nine games against SEC opponents. They are, however, tied for the most Quad-1 wins in the country with 13 which will help them when it’s time for postseason seeding.
Bottom Six
- Oklahoma
- Vanderbilt
- South Carolina
- Kentucky
- LSU
- Missouri
