LSU’s spring workouts moved quickly.
Music blared, whistles blew, periods flew. Whit Weeks stood around. He attended most every practice, but the senior linebacker was held out as he recovered from a litany of injuries that have plagued him dating back to the Texas Bowl at the end of the 2024 season.
As spring practice came to a close, Weeks donned some shoulder pads and joined his teammates in a limited capacity. He’s ready to return to normalcy.
“For me, personally, getting those reps was huge for me at the end of spring because it gave me the confidence to know that I can do it,” weeks told Jacob Hester on Off the Bench. “Really, this is the best my ankle has felt since sophomore year. It was a bit of a struggle for me last year. We got some stuff cleaned up in January, so now I’m ready to roll again.”
Weeks will man the middle of Blake Baker’s defense in 2026. He’s the elder statesman surrounded by younger players and fresh transfers. Six of those imports figure to start on the first 11. Some continuity remains with faces like Davhon Keys, Tamarcus Cooley, DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland back.
While the Tiger offense learns an entirely new system, the defense returns Baker and some key assistants. Spring was about addition, not installation.
“I think having those veterans plus all the coaches coming back, it allows our defense to keep evolving,” Weeks said. “This spring we added so much new stuff into our defense, a couple new schemes that we put in, a lot more three-down. It’s cool to see how this defense has evolved from Baker’s first year going into his third year.”
Weeks had the option of entering the NFL Draft this winter. He elected one final year of school. That year features a new head coach, a College Gameday visit for the season opener and perhaps the most anticipated game of the season in Oxford come week three.
The NFL can wait.
“You don’t get these opportunities many times in life,” Weeks said. “I only get to play seven games in Death Valley for the rest of my life, so I really just cherish every moment that I get in that stadium. And when you get to play a school like Clemson at night, College Gameday first week of the season, those are the games that when you’re sitting here in May working out, that’s what you’re thinking of. That’s what I’m working toward right there.”
