In a surprising turn of events, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has reported to the team facility for Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
Amidst much ado around his potential role in New Orleans and the contract that goes along with it, Kamara made what head coach Kellen Moore called an “unexpected” appearance.
“Obviously a little bit unexpected,” he said of Kamara’s presence. “As far as traditionally his routine is (that) he prepares away from New Orleans, and so it’s good to see him.”
Kamara has been the subject of plenty of conversations this offseason due to the team’s lack of commitment to his being a part of their future. The running back, however, has made it clear that he does. Which makes his arrival At Saints’ OTAs another statement moment to back up his verbalized desires.
The Saints signed running back Travis Etienne Jr. this offseason, but Kamara has not shied away from the idea of sharing the backfield with another explosive player.
“He hits home runs,” Kamara told Terron Armstead on The Set. “He did it in college, I’m excited to see what we can do together.”
If New Orleans remains uncertain of the back’s future with the team, this decision to show up for offseason practices could apply some pressure or extend an olive branch in the hopes of the two sides getting on the same page sooner rather than later.
Kamara has made it clear, not just with his words but now his actions, that he intends to and hopes to remain a Saint.
