Florida transfer Cade Kurland picks LSU

LSU added veteran Florida infielder Cade Kurland via the transfer portal Thursday. He’s the fourth transfer commitment for Jay Johnson’s squad this cycle.

Kurland announced his pledge on X.

The Tampa native burst onto the SEC scene as a freshman in 2023 and hit .297 with 17 home runs for the national runners up. He started all three games of the title series against LSU in Omaha and collected five hits including a home run in Game 3. For his efforts, Kurland was a consensus freshman All-American.

Since, he has not regained that form as injuries have piled up.

He hit just .245 in 2024 and missed all but 14 games of 2025 when he was granted a redshirt year. This year, his fourth in Gainesville, Kurland rebounded to hit .279 with nine home runs. In Baton Rouge, he collected five more hits including a pair of home runs in the finale.

Kurland has primarily played second base and has only made two errors in his last 60 games. He remains a draftable prospect, so he’ll explore that option in July. If he does not like his professional offers, he’ll head to Baton Rouge for his final season.

Kurland joins Dawson Park as transfer middle infielders headed to LSU.
