Steven Milam to return for senior season

LSU has its 2027 shortstop, and it’s not coming from the transfer portal.

Steven Milam has withdrawn his name from consideration from the MLB Draft. Zack Nagy of Geaux247 initially reported the news, and LouisianaSports.net has confirmed it.

The news transforms the Tiger infield by bringing back college baseball’s best infield defender at the most demanding position. Milam has made just nine errors in 448 chances at the position over the last two seasons totaling 126 games.

He’s a steady offensive player, too. He’s a .305 career hitter over 189 career games played, and he’s launched 30 home runs, 11 in each of the last two seasons. He was named to the All-Regional team in 2025 and 2026, as well as the College World Series All-Tournament Team in 2025.

Transfer Dawson Park and returner Jack Ruckert among others including John Pearson will compete at second and third base, but Milam will man shortstop.

Milam becomes a centerpiece to a bounce back season for Jay Johnson’s Tigers.
