In the biggest offseason update thus far on the potential New Orleans Saints return for defensive end Cameron Jordan, former Saints offensive lineman Terron Armstead reported on his podcast The Set that Jordan and the Saints will meet Tuesday in New Orleans to discuss a deal to bring him back to the Crescent City.
“Cam Jordan will be flying to New Orleans (Tuesday),” he said. “Going to the facility, planning to have a conversation. Nothing is set in stone, but the hope is alive that Cam Jordan will continue his career in black and gold.”
Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football has also confirmed the report.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis made it known earlier in the offseason that a contract offer had been made to the 2011 first-round defender. Head coach Kellen Moore has remained consistent that the team would like to have Jordan back in the locker room and on the field.
Jordan’s considerations throughout the offseason have been beyond that of pure finances and have centered also around role and opportunity.
He had 10.5 sacks last season, his first double-digit sack season since 2021, proving that he still has much to give, especially in the right situation.
Should the Saints and Jordan agree upon a deal to finalize his return, Jordan would then play his 16th NFL season with the franchise and likely finish his career playing only for the Saints, as he has often expressed a desire to do.
The return would be a strong step forward for the Saints as well, who lost a considerable amount of veteran leadership this offseason and could use more reinforcements in the edge rusher room.
Nothing is promised, but Jordan making the trip to New Orleans as mandatory minicamp begins is a promising sign in the Saints’ endeavor to get the veteran leader back on the field in New Orleans.
