One of the more pertinent questions of the New Orleans Saints’ offseason received a healthy update from the team’s general manager Mickey Loomis Monday morning.
Until then, it appeared that the Saints and defensive cornerstone Cameron Jordan weren’t necessarily making progress on a potential agreement for his return in 2026.
However, Monday morning during the team’s Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Classic, Loomis made it known that the team does indeed have a contract offer out to Jordan.
“Cam does, [quarterback Taysom Hill] does not,” Loomis said when asked whether or not the team has made contract offers to both players.
The general manager cited that more conversation would be necessary with Hill before making a decision on that front, but did not hesitate to share what is believed to be progress with Jordan.
Loomis has maintained in previous interviews that conversations with Jordan have been positive, but this is the first time that any member of the Saints brass has disclosed the contract offer.
While this does indicate progress, having an agreement on the table is only part of the equation.
Jordan has made it well known in the past that money won’t be the driving factor behind his decision to return to New Orleans or potentially sign elsewhere. Instead, his role and opportunity have remained the driving factors under consideration.
A contract offer far from guarantees the resolution will be reached between the two parties soon, but it does reinforce that the Saints are willing and able to bring Jordan back to New Orleans from a financial standpoint.
Jordan finished the 2025 season with 10.5 sacks, his first double-digit sack season since 2021, showing that he can be an impactful and efficient player in defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s system. Coming back for a second year in Staley‘s defense appears likely to provide the defensive leader some upside in the edge rusher role.
The Saints will kickoff OTA‘s next week. During Jordan‘s 15-year NFL career, he’s never missed an OTA period. Perhaps there’s a chance that he could keep that streak alive if he and the Saints can reach an agreement before the team‘s third offseason phase gets started.
