Jake Brown selected No. 65 overall by Mariners

A second LSU outfielder is off the board. Jake Brown was selected 65th overall by the Seattle Mariners Saturday.

Derek Curiel was take No. 5 overall by Pittsburgh.

The junior from Sulphur, La., was a 16th round selection of Texas in 2023 but chose to attend LSU. Across three seasons with the Tigers, Brown played in 162 games with 108 starts. He hit .304 as a Tiger with 28 homeruns.

Brown was having his best season in 2026 when a hamate bone injury ended his campaign in mid-May after 42 games. Before the injury, he was LSU’s leader in batting average, homeruns and RBI.

During LSU’s 2025 national title season, Brown played in 64 games with 46 starts, primarily in right field. He hit .320 with eight homeruns, nine doubles and two triples. He committed just one error in 78 chances.

As a freshman in 2024, Brown playe din 56 games with 21 starts.

LSU is replacing its entire starting outfield with Derek Curiel being selected by the Pirates and Chris Stanfield out of eligibility. Jay Johnson added three outfielders via the transfer portal. Rising sophomore William Patrick returns and elite prospect Nathaneal Davis previously withdrew from the draft and will attend LSU.
