Jordyn Tyson can push for Saints’ rookie touchdown record

New Orleans Saints

An exciting rookie season could be on the way for New Orleans Saints first-round selection and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. While he’s been held out throughout most of the team’s offseason practices, the goal is for him to be full-go by the time the season begins.

The Saints’ cautious approach with the explosive wideout has perhaps disrupted some of the usual hype that would revolve around a first-round receiver, especially one as explosive as Tyson. But the thought process is that it’s all for the greater good of maximizing his impact during the regular season.

That impact could very well lead him to breaking the franchise’s rookie receiving touchdown record and no one would bat an eyelash.

The record is currently held by former wideout Michael Thomas who caught nine touchdown strikes during his 2016 rookie campaign. He reached the number three times in his career.

Earlier this offseason, we made a bold prediction that Tyson would lead the team in touchdown receptions. His big play generation, red zone acumen and run after catch ability all lead to the projection.

In order to top fellow wideout Chris Olave, Tyson may have to venture into double-digit touchdowns. Olave paced the Saints with nine touchdown receptions of his own last year.

Meaning that in order for Tyson to claim the receiving touchdown crown, he’ll have to do so on a record-setting pace.

10 touchdowns receptions would move the rookie into a standing of his own, etched into the history of the Saints’ franchise and ushering in the next era of the New Orleans wide receiver room.
