With training camp just over a week away for the New Orleans Saints, the team has just one last outstanding situation to wrap up: the potential contract extension for wide receiver Chris Olave.
Coming off of a career year in the receiving game, the potential for Olave is at its highest. He proved that he can stay on the field and play a healthy season last year, became the second-ever player in the franchise’s history with 100 catches in a season and was selected as an All-Pro second-team member.
Even during his stellar 2025 season, the fifth-year wideout made it known that conversations were under way, but since then, talks are about as far as things have gone.
The Saints aren’t a team that’s usually in a rush to get extensions done. They’ll often wrap up those kinds of conversations in August or even September.
In 2020, the Saints completed their extension with former linebacker Demario Davis going into the Week 2 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. One year later, cornerback Marson Lattimore was given his new deal headed into Week 1.
With that history, there would be no surprise if negotiations pushed into training camp. But Olave did say that he would like for the talks to be wrapped up before camp, in order to minimize distraction.
Just a little over a week out, it’s becoming increasingly likely that won’t be the case. However, now that the team and running back Alvin Kamara have reworked his deal, all efforts could be set toward getting Olave’s wrapped up soon.
