Ole Miss has filed suit against Devin Harper and Princewill Umanmielen.
The school released a statement Tuesday suggesting the two former Rebels who transferred to LSU are responsible for the compensation of their revenue sharing agreements signed in January before both entered the transfer portal and followed their former coach, Lane Kiffin, to LSU.
“The University of Mississippi has a responsibility to enforce contractual terms, and this position is consistent with the actions of other institutions in the current landscape of college athletics,” the statement reads.
The statement lays out a timeline of events for both players including the contacting of LSU on March 12 after neither player responded within the 30-day deadline of being notified via letter. The school says LSU denied payment stating they are not a party to the contract. That is true. The revenue sharing contract is with the players. Rebel athletic director Keith Carter said two weeks ago that schools can pay on behalf of the players.
The reported amount for both players is just shy of $1 million in total. That amount would come out of LSU’s revenue sharing money should Ole Miss win the lawsuit and LSU agree to pay on the players’ behalf.
