With the opening weekend in the rearview, we look ahead at where to go for Week 2 and 3 of the season, which may be the easiest call of the entire season.
Sept. 12: Ohio State at Texas
The biggest game of the year was in week one of last season when these two met. This year’s version will have to wait a week longer. Two top five teams meet in Austin in the biggest non-conference matchup of the year. The winner will have a massive leg up in making the College Football Playoff. And, as we learned last year, the loser of that game can be behind the eight ball pretty quickly. These are possibly the two most talented rosters in America, and it will be a must-see event.
Texas has a brutal schedule this season, but a majority of their biggest games come away from home. This one is at Darrell K. Royal Stadium, and is an easy choice to continue the bucket list trip at.
Sept. 19: LSU at Ole Miss
The easiest decision of the entire season. Tailgate at the grove. Postgame drinks at The Library. Sandwiched in between is the most anticipated game of the season between what have become two bitter rivals.
Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford is not only the biggest game of the weekend, it’s arguably the biggest game of the year. The atmosphere will be insane, and with or without Kiffin’s dog being present, the amount of juice in the stadium this Saturday will be electric.
What’s wild is that no one even seems to be talking about how incredible the game could be. The last several matchups in this rivalry have come down to the wire and been incredible theater. This time should be no different, and it will feature two of the best offenses in the conference, if not the country. The best quarterback in the SEC will face the highest paid prospect from the transfer portal. Former teammates running over each other. This one will be special for sure. It feels like a game with this much hype rarely lives up to it, but this one absolutely should and will be a 60 minutes fight between two programs that hate each other.
