As the New Orleans Saints and wide receiver Chris Olave negotiate a potential extension, he was not seen participating in team and 7-on-7 drills.
In a decision that head coach Kellen Moore seemed supportive of from the business side of things, Olave participated in individual drills before staying on the sideline for the offensive vs. defensive drills.
“I think it’s just respecting the business side of this thing,” Moore said. “I think they’re just working through that as we go. Everyone’s been great about this whole process, no issues there.”
The hold-in approach keeps Olave in the building and in good standing with the Saints, as it sounds like the plan was discussed on both sides of the negotiation before enacted.
“We just talked through it,” Moore said. “Everyone’s communicated really well, and everyone has the same goal.”
Moore also made mention of New Orleans and Olave being on the same page, signaling a projection of clarity and intent to get the deal done. However, it may just be with Olave on the sideline during team drills.
This will help to keep Olave healthy and away from injury risk, which could then drastically shift contract negotiations. With that concern aside, the focus will be on getting a deal done and keeping Olave in the building for the foreseeable future.
