The Cape Cod League season is coming to an end.
With football opening camp next week, this will be out last summer ball update. Dawson Park and Jason Wachs did not record a statistic this week, so it’s possible both are done for the summer. Park made the all-star team. Wachs played in 26 games and almost got 100 plate appearances.
Summer ball is a different assignment for everyone.
Some are just getting reps. Some are working on an aspect or two of their games. Some are auditioning for scouts. For some, it’s all of the above. Statistics don’t tell the whole story, but they’re all we have.

I’m going to type in past tense here. There are three days left in the regular season, but the book is basically closed.
Obviously, Watters is the headliner. That’s a sensational summer against good pitching. The .331 batting average and 12 stolen bases are really loud. He’s got the makings of an All-SEC player and an early draft pick.
Cade Kurland slugged a little bit and did not make an error in 100 chances. That’s Kurland. He’s probably not going to hit .340 for LSU, but he can hit doubles and homers, and he’s rock solid at second base.
I thought it was an encouraging summer offensively and defensively from Park. Jay Johnson told me on radio that he loved the way Park played defense while Johnson was on The Cape watching. The stats show strong performances, too. The .254 batting average won’t pop, but that’s solid with a wooden bat against those arms, especially for a player coming from the Sun Belt.
Ideally, Wachs would have posted better than a .200 average. The on base percentage was good, and that shows discipline. I like the six steals, too. He’s the favorite to play center field for LSU. I’m excited to get a look at him in thr fall.
I’m still high on Reagan Ricken even though his second and third starts weren’t good. He’s still very early in his focus on baseball, and the tools are there. It’s a big fall for him.
