LSU’s top ranked signee is headed to Baton Rouge.
Logan Schmidt has decided to come to LSU as opposed to enrolling in junior college according to his social media. LouisianaSports.net confirmed the decision.
The hard-throwing left-hander was a second-round pick of the Cleveland Guardians and turned down $1.7 million to play in college.

He’s 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds and features a fastball that can touch 97 mph. The southpaw throws a ton of strikes and figures to help LSU right away in 2027.
Score this as a huge win for Jay Johnson and the program as Schmidt had every intention of turning pro prior to the draft. An agent change and some in-draft variables dictated that his signing bonus wouldn’t be what he wanted. Schmidt weighed the idea of entering junior college and trying his hand at the MLB Draft next summer. Instead, he’ll play three years at LSU.
This commitment means LSU will have the top ranked freshman class according to D1Baseball and Baseball America.
LSU managed to get Schmidt, Dominic Santarelli, Malachi Washington, Nate Davis, Lucas Nawrocki, Cooper Sides, Coleton Brady, Kolby Stringer and Luke Tucker to campus in what is a potentially program-altering freshman class.
Schmidt was the final piece.
