The pads came on Tuesday night.
The media just didn’t get to stick around long enough to hear them popping. Lane Kiffin promised increased physicality over the next week and a half, and that began as the sun descended beyond the Mississippi River.
What’s apparent now is that the media is going to see the same set of drills every time out. That allows us to take a quick attendance, check gold “no contact” jerseys, watch a few reps on air and head out.
Here were a few notes on the offensive work.
- The running backs and quarterbacks worked on handoffs from under center to open practice. The running backs were aligned deep and took the gives on the dead run. I fully expect LSU to work out of the shotgun the vast majority of the time, but they are working on some under center stuff.
- Trey’Dez Green was in gold again but a full participant. It’s evident that they are just making sure no one hits the 6-foot-7 basketball talent. He’s not dealing with an injury.
- Jabari Mack might be. He was off to the side working individually with a gold jersey on.
- The offensive line hit sleds in what appeared to be sides of the line. The first unit remained Jordan Seaton, Bo Bordelon, Braelin Moore, Aliou Bah and Weston Davis. It appeared the second team was Sean Thompkins, Ja’Quan Sprinkle, William Satterwhite, Darrin Strey and Devin Harper left to right. Eric Wolford worked with the left side. James Cregg worked with the right.
- Once again Gabriel Reliford and Aidan Anding were dressed out and rode the stationary bikes. Camp is not so fun when you’re out for the year.
- Ed Orgeron was working with the defensive tackles after working with the EDGE group earlier in camp.
CHARTING QB1
Only one of Sam Leavitt‘s passes hit the ground tonight over three periods with the tight ends and wide outs. Green made a nifty one-handed catch on a poor delivery behind him on a flat route. Thagt was the highlight. Here were the rest of the throws.

I thought Leavitt looked pretty good. The out routes to Wilson and Wright were good throws, and the red zone stuff was on the money. There’s no defense out there, so no need for effusive praise for the fourth-year college quarterback, but he looks healthy and has the throws.
Of the route runners, Wilson is still the most sudden. I’m starting to feel like Jayce Brown and Tre Wilson are two of the leaders in the wide out group.
LSU will walk through on Wednesday as a recovery day before another full pads practice on Thursday morning.
