The New Orleans Saints have confirmed that rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson suffered a hamstring injury during their joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Yeah, Jordyn has a hamstring,” Head Coach Kellen Moore said after Friday’s walkthrough. “We’re going to continue to collect some more information just as far as what that timeline looks (like). He just kind of got caught in a goofy spot.”

Tyson went down to the ground after making a reception about halfway through Thursday’s joint practice after making a catch and turning up the left sideline.

He got up slowly and walked gingerly for a few steps before jogging off of the field.

Due to his previous injury history, particularly with hamstring issues, many concerns immediately arose that he may have re-aggravated the ailment. But Moore says that the injury, while of the same leg, wasn’t necessarily tied to his previous injury.

“It’s not anything related to a previous hamstring injury,” he said. “It’s something new. So, they’ll collect some more information on that, put together an action plan for that moving forward and keep progressing as well as we can.”

The hamstring is made up of three muscles. It is possible that a different one that his previous injury was affected. But in any case, it sounds like the catalyst for the injury not being tied to his previous ailment comes down to the nature of how it took place.

“This has nothing to do with Jordyn’s history,” he said. “Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this.”

Tyson was not expected to participate in Saturday’s preseason game against the Jaguars, so the injury won’t cost the first-rounder an opportunity that would have been awaiting him otherwise.

As for the process moving forward, there’s no definitive timeline just yet.

“Yeah, we’ll collect more information, it could,” Moore said about a potential impact on his availability for Week 1. “We’ll see what happened. We’re kind of in the early stages, letting experts take care of their evaluation and then we’ll put together a plan.”

An acknowledgement that the injury could linger into the season-opener isn’t the same as saying that he definitely won’t be available for the team’s Week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions.

But it is clear that the team will be in no hurry to rush him back on the field with his regular season contributions being the most significant consideration moving forward.
