LSU was in shells for Thursday morning’s workout. Nickelback and Morgan Wallen led the playlist. The media got its usual 12 minutes to observe.
That sets the scene. Here’s what we saw.
ABSENSES
Lamar Brown was not present. Matt Moscona is reporting that the freshman defensive end suffered a leg injury during Tuesday’s practice and will miss some time. That further thins LSU’s defensive end position. He was the only notable absence.
Special assistant coach Ed Orgeron still has not rejoined the team.
BACK IN ACTION
Malik Blocton didn’t participate on Tuesday but was a full go on Thursday.
DJ Pickett and Jordan Ross wore purple jerseys meaning they were full participants. Ross was missing on Tuesday, and Pickett had on gold “non contact” jersey.
After spending Tuesday on the stationary bike, Harlem Berry returned to work with the running backs.
BACKUP BATTLES
We don’t get to see the offensive line line up five across. They’re broken into halves.
On Thursday, Ryan Miret worked at center with William Satterwhite at left guard and Brysten Martinez at left tackle. That may be the second team. It may be the third team, but it’s noteworthy that we’ve now seen Satterwhite line up at tackle, guard and center in camp. He was purely a center at Tennessee, logging 182 snaps on Rocky Top. His high school highlight tape shows snaps at both right and left tackle.
Word is that Martinez has enjoyed a great first fall camp at left tackle.
PASSING PICK UPS
I’m ready to suggest that Tre’ Wilson is joining Jayce Brown near or at the top of the receiver pecking order. Wilson is working with Sam Leavitt very frequently, and two often talk after reps. Wilson and Brown are old and have been as productive as any transfer wide receivers in the crop, so this is hardly a surprise, but it takes a while to parse through 12 new wide outs.
Winnie Watkins made a great juggling catch on a goalline pass from Leavitt.
The quarterbacks worked on some roll out passes today. They rolled both ways in the red zone. Leavitt looked very comfortable and full speed doing so.
There was also a ton of work being put into back shoulder throws. That is going to be an emphasis on this offense. Trey’Dez Green caught a couple on the goalline.
SCOUTS SEEN
The Ravens, Broncos, Falcons, Giants and Bears were represented at practice.
