One attorney for the 33 athletes, who won a temporary restraining order against the NCAA for a fifth season of eligibility, says he’s filed an amended TRO on Thursday afternoon.
Tony Clayton confirmed on After Further review with Matt Moscona that the TRO specifically included the Southeastern Conference on Thursday. The initial TRO focused on the NCAA as a whole, but after the SEC’s statement earlier this week that outlined serious punishments for schools who roster a player deemed ineligible.
“I just did that, so it’s sitting on the judge’s desk.” Clayton said. “I just walked that through….I just added the SEC and Mr. Greg Sankey.”
The temporary restraining order has not been signed as of the 4 o’clock hour, but Clayton is optimistic that could happen before the end of the week.
A hearing for a temporary injunction on behalf of the student athletes was scheduled for Monday, August 31, but Clayton says that has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 3.
“I think the SEC and its commissioner are flat out wrong, and they need to be called out on this,” Clayton told Moscona.
It’s Clayton’s contention that the initial restraining order includes the SEC, but Thursday amendment leaves no doubt. An amended TRO including the SEC was also filed in Texas earlier on Thursday on behalf of another group of student athletes seeking further eligibility.
