The New Orleans Saints returned to the field on Tuesday for the club’s first bonus week practice. This brought about an opportunity to see which injured players could show early progress toward making their way back in time for Week 1.
Three key contributors were among that group while a few names remained absent. Here is the attendance from Tuesday’s practice:
Not Seen
- RB Audric Estime
- S Lorenzo Styles Jr.
- RB Alvin Kamara
- TE Oscar Delp
- EDGE Cameron Jordan
Returning Players
- CB Quincy Riley
- LB Chris Rumph II
- RG Cesar Ruiz
- DL John Ridgeway III
Observing
- WR Jordyn Tyson
- WR Mason Tipson
New Player
- TE Stone Smartt (expected to be on practice squad)
With Riley returning, the team’s concerns around cornerback depth are slightly alleviated. Last year’s starter opposite top cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry down the stretch, Riley impressed during his rookie season. Expectations are high around him as well going into his second year in the league and under Defensive Coordinator Brandon Staley.
The returns for Ruiz, Rumph and Ridgeway all help to bolster units that appeared either light or facing potential injury questions after the 53-player roster cutdown.
A number of players also saw jersey number changes on the day.
- K Daniel Carson from No. 48 to No. 10
- QB Zach Wilson from No. 4 to No. 11
- WR Trey Palmer from No. 10 to No. 16
- RB Zamir White from No. 33 to No. 26
- EDGE Anfernee Jennings from No. 54 to No. 33
- DL Colby Wooden wearing No. 50
- OL Mason Murphy wearing No. 74
- TE Stone Smartt wearing No. 84
