The Southeastern Conference filed suit against LSU head football coach Lane Kiffin, athletic director Verge Ausberry and president Wade Rousse, according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos.
As Judge William Jorden considered a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, SEC and Commissioner Greg Sankey on Thursday, the SEC filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of Alabama naming the trio and LSU’s Board of Supervisors as defendants
“Defendants waged a deliberate and coordinated campaign to recruit professional athletes to play football for LSU during the 2026-27 season,” according to the SEC’s suit.
LSU appeared before Judge William Jorden on Thursday as he considered whether to keep his temporary restraining order in place until trial.
At issue is LSU trying to add former Ole Miss players, tight end Dae’Quan Wright and defensive tackle Zxavian Wright, plus Junior Tuihalamaka of Notre Dame, to its roster which must be certified by the SEC at least 24 hours before kickoff.
LSU hosts Clemson in its season opener at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
NFL teams waived both Harris and Wright after they participated in training camps over the past month. They’ve been part of a group of student-athletes going to court to gain a fifth year of eligibility.
The SEC countered with the following in its complaint and asks the court to: “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.”
During the league’s meeting discussion centered around the SEC’s disdain for enabling players that declared for the NFL, signed a contract or were listed on a roster, to be prohibited from going back to college.
SEC presidents endorsed the measure and voted to approve it.
